About Thread Vein Removal in Devon

What Are Thread Veins and How Can We Treat Them?

Thread veins, also known as spider veins or broken capillaries, are tiny, dilated blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin. They most commonly develop on the face, especially around the nose and cheeks, and sometimes on the neck or chest (décolleté). Factors such as ageing, sun exposure, hormonal changes, and lifestyle habits can all contribute to their development.

At House of Skincare, we use the LP YAG handpiece on the Harmony XL Pro to safely target and collapse these visible veins. This advanced laser technology delivers precise energy into the blood vessel, causing it to break down and be reabsorbed by the body over time, without damaging surrounding skin.

Please note: For thread veins around the eye area or for patients on certain medications that make laser unsuitable, we offer an alternative solution using electrolysis vein removal.

Thread Vein Removal FAQs

What are thread veins?

Thread veins, also known as spider veins, broken capillaries, or telangiectasia, are tiny, visible blood vessels that appear just beneath the surface of the skin. They can look red, blue, or purple and often form in clusters.

While harmless, they can be cosmetically bothersome, especially when they appear on the nose, cheeks, neck, or chest. They tend to become more common with age, sun exposure, hormonal changes, genetics, and certain medical conditions.

Laser thread vein removal with the LP YAG handpiece on the Harmony XL Pro works by delivering a precise beam of long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser energy directly into the thread veins. This light energy is absorbed by the blood within the vessel, generating heat that causes the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the body naturally clears away the treated vessels, leaving the skin clearer and more even-toned.

The treatment is designed to target the vessel without damaging surrounding skin tissue, making it a safe and effective option for visible vascular lesions.

At House of Skincare, we commonly treat thread veins in the following areas:

  • Nose and nasal folds
  • Cheeks
  • Chin and jawline
  • Neck
  • Décolleté (upper chest area)

For delicate areas around the eyes, laser is not appropriate. In these cases, we offer electrolysis vein removal, which can safely treat fine vessels that are too close to the eye or for patients who are contraindicated for laser.

Yes, when performed by trained professionals using medical-grade equipment like the Harmony XL Pro, laser vein removal is a very safe procedure.

We always carry out a comprehensive consultation and patch test before treatment to ensure suitability. Certain conditions or medications (such as those that increase light sensitivity or blood thinning) may require alternative approaches, such as electrolysis.

Our team will advise you on the safest and most effective course of action based on your skin, medical history, and the location of the veins.

Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a brief snapping or stinging feeling, like a warm elastic band flicking against the skin. The LP YAG handpiece is equipped with integrated cooling technology, which soothes the skin during treatment and helps minimise discomfort.

The sensation is tolerable and short-lived, and our practitioners will always work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

The number of sessions varies depending on:

The size and depth of the thread veins

The area being treated

Your body’s individual healing response

Most clients see visible improvement after the first session, but typically 2 to 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are needed for optimal results. Stubborn or deeper veins may require additional sessions. Your practitioner will develop a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.

Step 1: Initial Consultation (Week 0)
We assess your skin and thread veins, check your medical history, and conduct a patch test to ensure suitability for laser treatment.

Step 2: First Treatment Session (Week 1)
Using the Harmony XL Pro, we treat the targeted thread veins. Sessions take around 15–30 minutes, depending on the area treated.

Step 3: Recovery & Results (1–3 Weeks Post-Treatment)
Veins may darken before fading. Mild redness or sensitivity is normal and typically subsides within 24–48 hours.

Step 4: Follow-Up Treatments (Every 4–6 Weeks)
Additional sessions are scheduled based on your individual response. Most people need 2–4 sessions for optimal results.

Step 5: Long-Term Results (3+ Months)
Once treated, thread veins won’t return in the same spot, although new ones may develop over time. Maintenance treatments can be arranged if needed.

Immediately after treatment, the treated area may look slightly red, flushed, or mildly swollen. The veins may appear darker before they begin to fade. These effects are temporary and usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours.

You can return to normal activities the same day, but we recommend avoiding heat, exercise, alcohol, and sun exposure for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

Results typically begin to appear within 2 to 3 weeks after treatment, with continued fading over the following 4 to 6 weeks. Smaller vessels may disappear completely after one session, while larger or deeper veins may require multiple treatments. Because the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and cannot return, the results are long-lasting, although new thread veins can develop over time.
There is minimal to no downtime. You may experience mild redness, sensitivity, or a slight warming sensation in the treated area, but these side effects are generally short-lived. Most patients resume their normal routine immediately, although we recommend following post-care advice to protect your skin and optimise healing.
Laser treatments are not suitable for thread veins around the eyes or eyelids, due to the delicate nature of the skin and the proximity to the eye. At House of Skincare, we offer a specialised electrolysis vein removal treatment for these areas, which is safe and effective even for patients with contraindications to laser. If you’re unsure which method is right for you, we will advise you during your consultation and may redirect you to our Electrolysis Thread Vein Removal treatment if appropriate.

Once a thread vein has been successfully treated, it won’t return in the same place.

However, this doesn’t stop new veins from forming due to genetics, ageing, or lifestyle factors. Maintenance treatments may be required over time if new veins appear.
